Finnish-Swedish "Freedom of Information Day" celebrated for the fifth time (2 Dec)

In one-month-time, the 5th Right to Know Day will be celebrated in Finland and Sweden on the 2nd of December to highlight the anniversary of the wolrd´s first Freedom of information act (2 December 1766), which was one of the greatest achievements of Finnish politician Anders Chydenius in the Diet of Sweden-Finland.

This year the Anders Chydenius Foundation in cooperation with the Committee for Future of Finnish Parliament and with the Finnish Human Rights Association will organise a seminar in the Finnish Parliament in Helsinki. The seminar will be opened by Finnish Finance Minister Mrs. Jutta Urpilainen. As a key note speach, the seminar participants will hear the introduction on the world"s first ranking of right of information laws by Mrs. Helen Darbishire, director of Access Info Europe (Madrid). The seminar will also hear a video address on Open Government Partnership by Mr Tom Blanton, director of National Security Archive (Washington D.C.).

Other speakers will be Director General Pekka Nurmi (Ministry of Justice), researcher Heikki Kuutti (Jyväksylä University) and professor Olli Mäenpää (Helsinki University). The seminar will be hosted by the chairman of Anders Chydenius Foundation Gustav Björkstrand, the chairman of Parliamentary Committee for Future Päivi Lipponen, Member of Parliament Sinuhe Wallinheimo and General Secretary for Finnish Human Rights Association Kristiina Kouros. I addition, Swedish Ambassadör Johan Molander will address the seminar.
